We've been quite fortunate as Abhisek Sinha from Actuate Corporation, offered to do a presentation on solving data visualization problems with BIRT (Business Intelligence and Reporting Tools), an open-source reporting framework for Java.

The following is Abhisek's abstract of this presentation:

"This session introduces you to BIRT (Business Intelligence and Reporting Tools), the powerful open source report development and deployment technology, and explores what its capabilities are. BIRT is a top-level Eclipse project founded and led by Actuate Corporation since 2004.

The presentation will explain how BIRT enables you to quickly and easily incorporate world-class reporting into your applications without the need for time-consuming custom code, and how developers can use a visual design environment to create reports based on a wide variety of data sources, including SQL, XML, Web Services and Java objects. Reports can range in functionality from simple reports created with a drag-and-drop experience, to complex reports with full programmatic control - all designed visually using a web-page design metaphor."

As before this meetup will be hosted at Google's San Francisco office (345 Spear St @ Folsom St)!

Pizzas will be sponsored by Diana Henninger from TEKsystems and refreshments will be brought in by Mike from New Relic!

Be sure to stick around until the end to get a shot at winning books and other interesting goodies from Sun and O'Reilly, as well as a copy of IntelliJ IDEA from JetBrains.

See you on August 11th at 6:30pm!
