We are doing the June's event a bit later than usual; this time we are meeting mid-month, instead of on the first Monday. I hope this change still works for your schedules. The venue (Marakana classroom) and the time (6:30pm) are the same as before.
For this event, Kevin Nilson, who co-leads two user groups in the South Bay, has generously offered to do a presentation on Comet, the framework for asynchronous client-server (HTTP) communication that enables event-driven web applications. If you do any kind of web development in Java, you'll want to know about it. Most major Servlet engines (Resin, Tomcat, Jetty, etc.) already support it, so all we have to do is learn how to take advantage of it.
Kevin's two-hour presentation aims to introduce Comet, as well as demonstrate different techniques on how to to use it: simple polling, long polling, and bayeux. As with our past events, you'll have a chance to participate in hands-on "labs" and try it out first-hand. Bring your laptop, or use one of the machines in the classroom.
As always there will be free food and drinks at this event, courtesy of Marakana.
Also, one of you will go home with a free license of IntelliJ IDEA, courtesy of JetBrains.
The space is limited so RSVP sooner rather than later, even if you cannot make it to the event.
See you on June 16th!
